Mohammad Ashraful is the only cricketer to have admitted that he was involved in fixing during this year's BPL.Two more cricketers have revealed that they are among the nine who have been accused of engaging in corrupt activity by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) during this year’s Bangladesh Premier League.
The ICC declined to name the nine men involved during a press conference earlier this week, but left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain and seam-bowler Mahbubul Alam have both admitted their involvement according to ESPNcricinfo. That follows yesterday’s disclosure by Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens that he had been accused of failing to report a corrupt approach. Former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful had already admitted his involvement in spot-fixing.
All of Stevens, Mosharraf and Mahbubul deny the allegations, with Mosharraf saying today: “I have met the ACSU twice in Dhaka as part of their investigation but the matches they’ve mentioned, the scorecard says I’ve done well. How can I do well and be involved in such a thing? Someone must have made me a scapegoat.”
Mahbubul also protested his innocence, saying, “I haven’t done anything wrong. I am to appoint a lawyer for the forthcoming legal battle as soon as possible. They (the ACSU) didn’t say as to what my exact offence was.”
